Mumbai (PTI): One more doctor has been arrested in the kidney racket case here which was unearthed last week, taking the total number of arrestees in the case to four.
Dr Samir Kapadia, who was arrested last night for his alleged involvement in the racket, has been remanded to police custody along with the three others by Metropolitan Magistrate J B Pankhe till May 13.
The three others, including a doctor, were arrested on May 5.
Police said Kapadia conducted 16 angiographies in one month without following proper procedure required under the Human Organ Transplantation Act.
Police is trying to establish identities of those who underwent the tests.
Kapadia was named in an earlier scandal in 1994 but had evaded arrest at that time.
On May five, police had arrested the three persons for allegedly duping a person and making him donate his kidney for money in April.
They were arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by S Srinivas Rao, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, who was in city in search of a job.
Rao alleged that he was promised Rs three lakh by the accused but was never paid the money, police said.
